THE NEW ZEALAND JAZZ FOUNDATION 

is a non-profit, charitable trust dedicated to promoting exceptional educational initiatives in jazz performance and composition and the appreciation of jazz music throughout New Zealand. The Foundation coordinates the annual National Student Jazz Workshops at the New Zealand School of Music, Victoria University of Wellington as well as Workshops specifically for Jazz Educators. The Foundation also runs the annual New Zealand Youth Jazz Orchestra for top student jazz musicians up to 19 years of age.

 

The Foundation was created in 1980 to facilitate the first New Zealand Jazz Workshops run by Jamey Aebersold and a large group of top American guest artists/teachers in 1980 and 1981. These included Randy Brecker, Woody Shaw, Jim McNeely, John Scofield, David Baker and many others (pictured below).

Donations to the Foundation

 

Donations to The Foundation are greatly appreciated and are used to improve the quality of these activities for students, unless otherwise specified. Donors can also sponsor scholarships for students to attend the jazz workshops or designate criteria for individual scholarships for university study.
